Murray and Carolyn GemmellBased in Waikuku on SH1, Gemmell contracting has a sales yard  supplying aggregate , boulders and sand for DIY’s to major construction projects.  They also stock coal ideal for slow cookers.  The other aspect of the business is Earth moving and can offer services in the creation of subdivision, quarrying,drainage, roading, farm installations (eg stock underpasses.)horse tracks and arenas bulk earth moving and much much more.



Murray grew up around large machinery and had 20 years' previous experience with Fulton Hogan, covering all areas of the contracting industry before he and his wife, Carolyn, created Gemmell Contracting in 2005. This started as a two person operation and in a few months time the daring duo were joined by Tony.

In August 2007, Gemmell Contracting doubled in size, taking on a roading and drainage project in Pegasus. In 2009 the company started a retail yard in Waikuku to complement their contracting business, offering a range of aggregates , coal and stock feed to service the local market. The purpose of this was to be a one-stop-shop.

Today Dave runs the day-to-day aspect of the store, Carolyn the administration and Murray manages to projects, from drive ways to our most recent project the off and at Lineside Road on ramps on SH1.

As  Gemmell Contracting motto, “For all your earthmoving requirements” indicates, the company has undertaken any task to do with moving earth – driveways, roading, subdivisions, tennis courts, ponds, lakes, horse tracks and arenas and much more, After the February quake, they were involved in helping to fix the extensive damage to crucial high voltage underground cables that supplied power to the eastern suburbs and the central city. 

 To go with this is a busy plant hire business – graders and tractors, dump trucks, rollers, loaders and diggers from 4 tonne to 20 tonne in size – all available for dry hire or can be hired with an experienced operator.  All suitable for those, who have no ongoing need to justify purchasing their own.
